All 11 tracks were completed in less than five hours (though I returned a few days later to re-track one). We also made live videos of five of the songs, all of which are now on YOUTUBE. I hope to take delivery of the first run of 500 CDs from the manufacturer in mid January 2019. It will be a nice way to start the new year.
Rupert Watestag:www.rupertwatesmusic.com,2005:Post/55094792018-11-12T08:36:37-05:002018-11-12T18:33:32-05:00All set for a new Cd
November 2018. I didn't expect to have a new Cd ready before spring 2019, but this year the writing has flowed and everything is now in place to for the recording. Images for the artwork are complete, and feature location photos taken by the skilled new photo artist Stacey Lorin. Recording will be in early December at Kevin Kelly's Workshoppe East studios in Huntington NY. The CD is to be entitled 'Full Circle' and it will be a kind of return to my roots, the only instrumentation being my voice and my guitar in a variety of open tunings. It's intended partly a homage to the artists who first inspired me to go to the local store and buy a guitar, and whose example I've tried to follow all my life.
Rupert Watestag:www.rupertwatesmusic.com,2005:Post/51818862018-04-14T12:48:14-04:002018-10-26T06:16:51-04:00Days Of Mercy: a new recording
April 14 2018. Over the years, many people have asked me at live gigs and elsewhere, where they can buy a recording of my 2010 song 'Days Of Mercy'. Though the song has appeared on previous Cds, for different reasons I've never been happy with the recordings. So to rectify this, and to answer the demand of listeners, yesterday at Kevin Kelly's Workshop East Studios in Huntington, NY, I made a new live recording of the song, with Trifon Dimitrov on bass and Chris Howard on percussion. It's available here for download. The performance was also videoed by Greg Blank and the video will appear on my VIDEO page in the next week or so. Still many holes to be plugged, and no doubt some gigs may fall by the wayside, but the brunt of the booking for the year is largely done. Looking forward to seeing many old friends on the road this year, and making new ones. My new CD, 'The Lights Of Paris', is now recorded and mixed and awaits only mastering at Rogue Planet Mastering in New Paltz. Tracking and mixing was completed in three four hour sessions, at Kevin Kelly's new studio, Workshoppe East in Huntington, NY. John Guari contributed some outstanding string arrangements, which lift the CD to a whole new level. Violinist Adrianna Mateo and cellist Brian Sanders performed them absolutely flawlessly and the whole thing was recorded with real mastery by Kevin. On Wednesday October 11, Adrianna, Brian and I gave the album a pre-launch live video performance in front of an invited audience, at Alex Sterling's studio Precision Sounds on New York's Upper West Side. I hope to receive the first run of 500 CDs from the manufacturers, Superlink in Toronto, in a couple of weeks. I'm excited about this one. Demos were recorded on March 20 at Alex Sterling's Precision Sound Studios on the Upper West Side of New York City. The title of the album is to be 'The Lights Of Paris'. Paris for me has always symbolized the need we all have for beauty and art in our lives, and its lights are therefore to me a symbol of hope in a dark world. Attached is a demo MP3 of a new song, 'The Day The Great Ship Went Down'. The song was written during the week of the Presidential inauguration here in America. Perhaps this says enough. Six big tours completed, with more than 100 dates in the US and in Europe; a new CD 'Colorado Mornings', released in March, to very good reviews internationally; half the material written for a new CD (recording tentatively scheduled for 2018); proofs revised and readied for the publication of my Paris novella 'In The Season Of The Night' (available on Amazon from February 2017); and perhaps most gratifyingly, picking up the 'Artist Of The Year' award from the house concert network Concerts In Your Home (to be announced late January 2017). This is the second time CIYH have named me an 'Artist Of The Year' (the first was in 2013), so I consider it an exceptional honor. Here's to 2017, in spite of the many dark clouds that surround us. It's taken almost exactly one year. The final 12 songs have been taken from a pool of 15. The album is to be called Colorado Mornings, and it's probably the most integrated and organic album I've ever written. Recording will be in February 2016 at Phase One in Toronto. In addition to myself, it will feature all the usual suspects: Bartosz Hadala on piano, Trifon Dimitrov on bass, and Chris Howard on percussion. Engineering will again be by Jeff Pelletier. Photos for the artwork were taken this July in Colorado by Beth Grimes. Graphic design for the CD will be by Dan Forero. I'm hopeful that it together we'll make a beautiful album. It took eighteen months, but I've achieved my first SOLD OUT run: of all 1,000 copies of my 2012 CD At The Losers' Motel. Most units were sold hand to hand at gigs, in company with copies of my other four solo CDs. Individual tracks are still available for download at CD Baby, Amazon, Spotify and other online stores. Taking the album's place will be my new CD, The Rank Outsiders Ball. It's to be recorded in February at Phase One Studios in Toronto and will be available from early March.

Best regards to all for the Holidays,
– RupertRupert Watestag:www.rupertwatesmusic.com,2005:Post/18891742013-10-20T16:45:56-04:002013-10-20T16:46:36-04:00New CD recording set for February at Phase One Studios in TorontoPhase One Studios in Toronto, Canada are lined up for the recording of my new CD, Feb 5-9 2014. We're forming a piano/guitar duo with the aim of touring Europe in 2014. We're calling ourselves The Nightwatchers. This week we recorded six demos towards the project at Rogue Studios in Toronto. Dave Turner will be putting together a new website for us in the next couple of weeks. It will include song samples, bios and a live video made in Hamilton, Ontario. In the meantime here's a sample track from the new demos (click here to listen). It's a song I wrote with my brother Matt some years back, entitled (When I Get Over) To California.

Best to all,
– RupertRupert Watestag:www.rupertwatesmusic.com,2005:Post/12271342013-07-19T07:45:00-04:002014-01-29T09:15:33-05:00Tour going well, sixth CD taking shape – hear a sample trackIt's been a busy year of touring so far, with more than 150 gigs on my calendar. Meanwhile, plans are taking shape for my 6th CD, to be recorded in February 2014. I've been looking at studios in Toronto, New Orleans and other parts of the States. Guest musicians will be Trifon Dmitrov (bass), Chris Howard (percussion), and Bartosz Hadala (keyboards). The engineer will be Chris Medrano, who did such a great job on "Joe's Cafe" and "At The Losers' Motel." It will be a thrill and a pleasure for me to work with such wonderful musicians and such good friends. Like my other CDs, the album will feature only original songs.

I've already written more than a dozen towards the album, and I've recorded demos at two great Brooklyn studios: Wash And Dry and Godelstring. In sound, the album will be a departure from the folk/fingerpicking style of my earlier CDs. It will be closer to Vaudeville, Cabaret and Jazz.

Click here to listen to a sample of a brand new song, "Suspend Our Disbelief (A Little Longer)".

Best to all for summer and fall,
– RupertRupert Wates
